Braille Eye is a award winning start-ups aiming to give visually-impaired people the technology that will allow them to read whatever they want whenever they want. To do so, Braille Eye uses optical character recognition (OCR), which converts documents captured by a digital camera into editable and searchable data, to translate written material into Braille, the writing system used by people who are blind or have severe sight problems.
The team composed of Emirati and international students, won the Award of the best startup at the Pitch@Palace UAE competition, held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Shaikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, and Britain’s Prince Andrew, the Duke of York.
